MSc. in Population and Rural Development (PRD) The MSc. in Population and Rural Development (PRD) is four semester Master's level course offered in the Center for Population and Development (CPAD) in Purbanchal University. CPAD is Located at Puspalal Chowk, Biratnagar. This course, by and large, deal with the interrelationship between population and development variables with respects to the general development , planning and gender issues. More over, the rural development focused courses specifically deal with the related issues and prospects of rural development. Objective -To conduct academic programmes in the area of population and development especially focused on current development issues like rural development, gender, reproductive health, sustainable development and human development, to produce human resources who can work as development activist -To conduct research In the area of population and development -To offer consultancy services and trainings on demand to universities, government and non-government agencies. -To attempt for obtaining resources to conduct academic programmes, research and training activities.
Centre for Population and Development (CPAD) was established in 2003 as a constituent body of Purbanchal University for fostering academic studies, research and training In the field of population and development. Purbanchal University, the only university In the Koshi Province, realized the need of abridging the gap between the grassroots-based practical activities and the university academia. There has been an esteemed need of development activists who can take a leading role in the development discourse of Nepal. Therefore, Purbanchal University established CPAD to offer higher education in the field of population and development and to conduct research and training in the same field at the local as well as national level.
 

The centre is currently offering Master's Degree in Population and Rural Development and conducting researches and trainings as per available funds. It also aims at providing academic courses like Post-Graduate Diploma, Masters in Philosophy, and Doctor of Philosophy in the long run. It also attempts fulfilling the research needs and short term trainings in the area of population and development.

CPAD is equipped with modem facilities and use of multimedia has become almost a regular phenomena. Students are grouped into small teams and asked for brainstorming to arrive at a conclusion which they should present in the classroom, Group and individual presentations are practiced regularly and a presentation may face cross-questions from their colleagues and faculties, Students are to be active participants in the learning process and teacher becomes a good facilitator. Apart from lectures, subject teacher engages students in workshops, seminars, case studies, laboratory exercises and problem solving sessions, The medium of instruction and writing is English. However, classroom discussions can be made in both English and Nepali medium.

Lab

For a student it is mandatory to learn computers. Students are required to use computers to perform laboratory exercises, prepare assignments, class presentations and dissertation. A spacious computer laboratory supported by power backup of powerful generator is an asset of CPAD. The laboratory has an all the time internet facility.
